--- MILES DAVIS Berkeley 1967 [no label, 1CD] Live at the Harmon Gymnasium, University of California, Berkeley, CA; April 7, 1967. Good to very good KALX radio broadcast. In his autobiography, Miles wrote: Around this time, Columbia wanted Gil [Evans] and me to do a jazz version of the music from the film Doctor Dolittle. See, Porgy and Bess had been my best-selling album, and so some real dumb motherfucker over there thought that this Doctor Dolittle would be a great seller. After listening to that shit I said, No way, Jose. I took the band along with Gil to Berkeley, California, and we did a concert there and added a big band. [This was the 1968 festival.] However, Miles did not mention the Berkeley concert in 1967. This is a comment on the show posted at allaboutjazz.com: The only live recording of Dolores by this group, and the last known recording of Stella By Starlight. Thanks to jkeisers who shared the tracks on the net in 2006. This is what jkeisers noted: There are two versions of this concert in circulation: an audience recording with the complete concert, and a radio broadcast without the stage introduction and without the tune Agitation. This is the radio broadcast. The sound quality of this radio broadcast is quite good. This is an essential item for people interested in the music of the Second Quintet. It is an exciting and spectacular concert. Artwork from rockrarecollectionfetish.blogspot - Thanks! Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (224 kbps).
